GUIDE TO STAIRLIFTS

Stairlifts can be split into three main types, defined by the type of stairs they’re made for and the location of those stairs. Although your stairlift will be one ‘type’, it will also be one-of-a-kind, tailor-made for fit your stairs and meet your mobility needs. Read on for more details.

THREE MAIN STAIRLIFT TYPES

The three main stairlift types are Straight Stairlifts, Curved Stairlifts and Outdoor Stairlifts. The first two types are defined by the type of rail they run on – either a straight stairlift rail or one with curves in it. The last type is defined by its location, outside the home. A staircase survey determines what type of stairlift you need, together with any necessary modifications.

SURVEYS

WHY DO I NEED A HOME SURVEY?

Any reputable stairlift supplier will only provide an accurate, all-inclusive quote for your bespoke stairlift after carrying out a staircase survey. It allows the surveyor to fully assess what components are needed for the installation and to discuss the needs of the stairlift user. The price quoted will have no hidden extras or unexpected fees and remains valid for up to a year, giving you time to think it over or seek other quotes.

VIRTUAL SURVEYS DURING COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic led Acorn Stairlifts to look at ways of reducing the number of essential in-person visits to customers’ homes. One way was to develop a remote ‘virtual survey’, enabling customers to submit key details for their own staircase. It is a step-by-step process carried out over the phone, guided by a stairlift expert. The Virtual Survey option is best suited to less complex stairs and you can still choose a COVID-safe in-person visit if you’d prefer it.
